'Artificial Intelligence: An Emerging Issue in Prosecuting Commonwealth Child Sex Offences'
As Artificial Intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly sophisticated and publicly accessible, it is anticipated to feature more prominently in Commonwealth child sex offending. AI can be used to generate child abuse material, or can be used to distort otherwise innocent images of children to sexually distort those images into child abuse material, often to disseminate to others.
This presentation will outline how this emerging type of offending fits within the current legislative landscape, canvas potential challenges in prosecuting this offending and factors which may arise at sentence. The presenters will also share some insights from recent cases and matters to be mindful of during the course of an investigation and the prosecution, particularly when considering what evidence will be required.
